Antipollution cooperates with Heraklion Port Authority for the seabed clean-up of the Venetian Port

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, Antipollution significantly contributed to the clean-up of the seabed of the Venetian port of Heraklion which took place in consideration to World Environment Day. This specific activity is carried out yearly by the initiative of the Central Port Authority of Heraklion and the Office for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Heraklion Port Organization. The purpose of the activity was to collect waste and plastic from the seabed of the port by experienced divers in collaboration with all diving clubs of Heraklion, as well as active participation from various organizations such as the Sailing Club of Heraklion, the Boatmen Union, the Red Cross, and others.

By actively participating in this seabed clean-up event, Antipollution provided specialized fleet and waste collection skip containers, as well as personal protective equipment for all the volunteers involved in the activity. Antipollution’s passionate volunteers who participated in the clean-up ensured that all provided skip containers were placed around the port to facilitate the collection process.

In total, 470 kilograms of waste were collected from this specific activity, which were transported by Antipollution’s specialized fleet to the processing facility of our waste management partner in Creta, Ecophoinix, for processing and recycling.

Therefore, this activity represents the active involvement of organizations and companies aiming to protect the marine environment and combat plastic pollution, emphasizing the priceless value of volunteering and its crucial role in environmental conservation.
