Antipollution Leads Cleanup Effort in Pagasitikos Gulf, Supported by the Deputy Governor of Thessaly

Volos, Greece – The Antipollution team has launched a significant marine cleanup operation in the Pagasitikos Gulf, with the support and gratitude of the Deputy Governor of Thessaly. The operation, which began on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, was initiated after coordination between the local government and the company’s leadership, marking another proactive step in environmental protection for the region.

The cleanup, carried out entirely free of charge, involved a full team of Antipollution specialists and a fleet of vessels and vehicles, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to Greece’s coastal ecosystems.

Speaking after visiting the cleanup site at the Volos port, the Deputy Governor of Thessaly commended the swift action and resources provided by Antipollution. “For the past four days, Antipollution has been working diligently to restore the waters of Pagasitikos Gulf. Their prompt response, in collaboration with the Thessaly Region and Volos’ fishing community, showcases their ongoing dedication to the environment,” he stated.

The operation involved:

  • 2 work boats (SP 358 & 352), 3 auxiliary boats, and a standby anti-pollution vessel (SP 423),
  • 2 off-road vehicles, 2 area monitoring vehicles, and 2 trucks, and
  • 23 team members, including 15 field operatives working directly in Volos.

Antipollution’s team has been working in close collaboration with the Region of Thessaly and the Volos fishermen, who have been active since the beginning of the cleanup.

“We owe our deepest thanks to Antipollution’s management and team for offering their services free of charge during yet another difficult time for our region. They were also instrumental during the cleanup efforts following the ‘Daniel’ storm,” added the Deputy Governor.

The cleanup effort will continue tomorrow, with Antipollution’s team remaining on the ground to ensure the full restoration of the Gulf’s waters.
